Good morning... and mini challenge!!!!

Dear friends,as I told you yesterday, we spent a lovely day with our friends in Ślemień, the city has a population of 1977 inhabitants and it is located 11 kilometres east of Żywiec and 65 km (40 mi) south-east of the regional capital Katowice.

After visiting the city we went to an astonishing and historical place in Oświęcim, also known as Auschwitz. There is located one the biggest Nazis camp. At the main entrance of the camp you can read this german words Arbeit macht frei. Can you please help me to learn what does it mean?
